As a passionate advocate for bee health and an expert in the field of beekeeping. \nMeet Samantha Muirhead\, Alberta’s Esteemed Provincial Apiculturist \nHailing from the heart of Alberta\, Samantha Muirhead is a true native with a profound passion for the natural world. Her academic journey led her to the University of Alberta\, where she earned her Bachelor of Science in Animal Biology in 2003. \nHer work spanned a wide array of topics\, from developing innovative Nosema control methods and Varroa mite treatments to enhancing supplementary feeding practices and honey quality standards. Beyond research\, Samantha’s dedication to bee wellbeing saw her serve as an apiculture inspector\, where she played a pivotal role in maintaining the health and safety of bee populations. She also managed her own bee colonies\, bringing practical experience and personal passion to her professional endeavors.
